Maya Ubud Resort & SPA: What It’s Really Like to Stay in This Jungle Resort in Ubud

First Impressions of Maya Ubud

Ubud is all about jungle energy, and Maya Ubud delivers that almost immediately. The property is massive, lush, and properly immersive not the kind of place where you feel stuck in a resort bubble.

There’s a waterfall, jungle trails, rice fields, tennis court, gardens, and two infinity pools so yeah, you can easily spend a full day (or two) without leaving the hotel.

Property: 9–10/10

Rooms – Comfortable, but Missing the Jungle Soul

We booked a standard room.

  • Clean? Yes

  • Spacious? Definitely

  • Bed? Super comfortable (we slept really well)

But here’s the thing—it felt more like a nice hotel room placed in the jungle, rather than a jungle room itself.

Room: 7/10A bit more character or natural design elements would’ve taken it to another level.

🍳 Breakfast – One of the Best in Bali

No exaggeration—this was easily one of the highlights.

We showed up late (around 10:30), expecting the usual “end-of-breakfast leftovers” situation… but nope. Everything was fresh, fully stocked, and beautifully presented.

From pancakes and tropical fruit to noodles and soup—everything we tried was excellent.

Breakfast: 10/10 (honestly, 11/10 if we could)One of the best breakfasts we had in Bali, and we tried a few high-end spots.

Food & Dining – Surprisingly Good Value

Teppanyaki Dinner

A really fun experience, and great value.

  • Set menu: ~35€ per person

  • Quality: solid

  • Overall: 8.5/10

Lunch

We hit happy hour and got a buy-1-get-1 burger deal (always a win). The burger itself? Actually very good.

Food overall: 10/10—especially considering the pricing for a resort like this.

Service & Atmosphere

It’s Bali, so expectations are high and they delivered.

Staff: 10/10

Warm, attentive, and genuinely friendly without being over the top.

Service overall: 9/10

Spa (Didn’t Try, But…)

We couldn’t get a slot (fully booked), which usually says something. A couple we met went two days in a row, so that’s probably all you need to know.

Location & Things to Do Nearby

The hotel is about 15 minutes by car from Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, which is worth a visit—even if you’re not expecting much.

Quick tip:👉 Don’t bring food unless you want to become very popular with monkeys.

Why Stay Here Before Diving

Since diving is off-limits for 18–24 hours after flying, Ubud is the perfect first stop. Instead of wasting that time, you get:

  • Jungle immersion

  • Proper rest before diving

  • A slower start to the trip

And Maya Ubud fits that transition really well.

Final Thoughts

Maya Ubud is one of those places that gets a lot right:

  • Incredible natural setting

  • Top-tier breakfast

  • Great value dining

  • Warm Balinese hospitality

It’s not perfect—the rooms and main building could lean more into the jungle aesthetic—but overall, it’s an easy recommendation, especially as a first stop in Bali.

Overall vibe: 9/10Would we stay again? Yes—especially for that breakfast alone.
