We stayed at Raffles Jakarta on our way to Bali because, let’s be honest, after a long flight from Milan, we deserved a little city pampering. As Jakarta has a lot of 5-star luxury hotels, and we wanted to choose the perfect one, the choice wasn’t easy but in the end, Raffles Jakarta won us over with its top Google reviews and the fact they had same-day massages for both of us.
The Arrival at Raffles Jakarta
We learned the hard way that not all taxis are created equal. Our “wrong” cab from Jakarta airport charged 500,000 IDR (~€25) for the ride, whereas the official Blue Bird Taxi (the blue ones, always go blue) would have been just under 200,000 IDR. Lesson learned: when in Jakarta, always trust the blue.
Once we arrived at Raffles Jakarta, everything went back to heavenly Indonesian hospitality. The lobby with elegant art pieces Raffles trademark, and the reception staff greeted us like old friends. We had our massages pre-booked, so we quickly headed to our room to freshen up.
The Room
10/10
Hands down, this was probably the best city hotel room I’ve ever stayed in. The colors pop in perfect yellow-and-blue harmony, and the layout is immaculate. The in-room coffee and snack bar deserves its own shout-out: a menu of teas, healthy snacks, and even a kids’ menu. Bonus points for welcome drinks and in-room tea!
The bathroom is spacious, sparkling clean, and beautifully presented. Bed and linen are like sleeping on clouds. The working area with a desk and chair was ideal for morning laptop sessions that I need every day so the separate lounge living area, tucked behind a sliding door, meant I could work while G snoozed undisturbed. A lot of modern suites have this problem of not separating properly the areas. Raffles Jakarta did a great job.
Jakarta noise alert: even on the 19th floor you can still hear the traffic. Earplugs are life if you need total silence for sleep like me. I never go anywhere without my earplugs and my eye mask.
Breakfast
10/10
Breakfast at Raffles Jakarta is a showstopper. Buffet + à la carte included, a sushi station, a pastry bar, and endless options. Price is around 300,000 IDR (€15) per person—insane value. They even packed us a takeaway boulangerie bag for our flight to Bali. Top marks here! Don't even think if you need this breakfast in your life, you do, trust me :)
My number 1 hotel breakfast is still The Okura Prestige Bangkok but this one comes in the top 5 ever.
The Spa
9/10
Ah, the Raffles Jakarta spa. If massages were awards, these would win gold. We went for two 90-minute Raffles Signature Massages—part Lomi Lomi, part Balinese, and all pure relaxation. I requested ginger oil with a focus on my feet and neck, and it was a heavenly choice. Our therapist was lovely and highly skilled.
The spa also has a steam room, sauna, and an outdoor pool set in a garden oasis—perfect for chilling post-treatment.
In-Room Dining
7/10
After 90 minutes of bliss, we didn’t want to move, so room service it was. The wagyu burger? Delicious. The katsu sando? Not so much—G didn’t even finish it, and the staff kindly removed it from the bill. My pumpkin soup was solid, but the naan was a bit chewy. Presentation, though, is spot-on. Morning coffee is free—a small, but very appreciated, touch. Overall: room service gets a 7/10.
Overall Experience
If you want luxury, comfort, and a touch of indulgence in Jakarta, Raffles Jakarta is the place.
