If you're planning a trip to Komodo National Park and looking for where to stay in Labuan Bajo, Sudamala Komodo might be exactly what you need. It’s close to the center, perfect for tours and diving, and offers a relaxed but refined atmosphere. We spent two nights here and genuinely enjoyed the experience.
The Spa Experience
Let me start with the spa because it was outstanding. Both G and I had treatments, and we walked out feeling completely renewed. The therapists were warm, skilled, and very professional. It was the kind of experience that sets the tone for the rest of your stay. And the price is so so fair. Honestly this is why I love going to Asia so much, you get the best therapist and best massages for less than what you would pay back home in Europe. We try to have a massage as often as possible when travelling but again, if you are a scuba diver, you should not get a massage at least 3 hours after your last dive, so bear that in mind.
Dining at Sudamala Komodo
The resort has just one restaurant, and we actually chose to eat there both nights. On our first evening, we ordered the dumpling soup and the lamb. The dishes were flavorful and nicely presented. The second night, I tried the chicken curry, which was equally satisfying.
Desserts were a lovely surprise. Light, creative, and just the right finish after dinner.
As for breakfast, I only had it one morning. It was perfectly adequate, with an egg station and some healthy items available. However, if I had to pick one area that could be improved, it would be the breakfast offering. It covers the basics but doesn't go far beyond that.

Beach and Pool
The beach and pool are both clean and pleasant. Still, if you’re coming to Komodo, chances are you're here for diving, snorkeling, and exploring the islands rather than lounging by the beach. In that context, the property meets expectations.

Gym Facilities
The gym is basic but functional. It has everything you need for a quick session, including cardio equipment and free weights. It worked well for a morning workout before heading out on excursions.

Our Pool Villa
Now to the part we loved most. We stayed in a pool villa, which turned out to be even better than expected. The space was bright, airy, and well laid out. The outdoor bathroom had a beautiful stone tub and felt like a private spa. You can even request flower petals and a bottle of champagne to make the space feel extra special.
What made the stay truly relaxing was the private garden and the pool. I spent an afternoon there writing, listening to the sound of the water fountain, and taking a break from all the boat days. It was the perfect retreat between activities.
Given the level of comfort, privacy, and service, the value for money is excellent. If we return to Labuan Bajo, I would absolutely book this villa again.

A Smart Choice for Divers
Sudamala Komodo is especially ideal if you're planning to dive. Their on-site dive center is fully operational and offers new, well-maintained equipment. The speedboat is smaller, which gives the diving experience a more personal and luxury feel. This setup also means you're back at the hotel earlier in the afternoon, leaving time to relax, swim, or go out again.
This made a big difference compared to our stay at Ta’aktana, which, although more luxurious, didn’t yet have a working dive center. That meant we had to wake up around six in the morning, take a taxi into town, walk to the harbor, and return in the evening. It was far from ideal if you also want to enjoy your hotel during the day.

Excursions and Tours
Sudamala offers well-organized day trips to Komodo National Park. We visited Padar Island, saw the Komodo dragons, swam with Mantas and spent time at the Pink Beach. Everything was arranged through the hotel. We were picked up directly from the lobby, and the entire day was smooth and well managed.

Price and How to Book
Rooms at Sudamala Komodo start from approximately 125 euros per night. The pool villa offers excellent value, especially for those looking for a balance between activity and comfort. You can check current prices and availability on Agoda.
Final Thoughts
Sudamala Komodo understands what travelers in this region need. It provides a calm and well-designed environment with the bonus of a great spa and diving setup. It is not flashy or overly styled, but that is exactly what makes it feel grounded and relaxing.
If you're a scuba diver looking for a place where you can dive in the morning and enjoy a peaceful afternoon in your private villa, this hotel should be at the top of your list.
