Planning a trip to Komodo, Indonesia feels like chasing a dream, jagged isles, legendary dragons, and coral-rich waters. But finding the right place to stay? That’s what truly defines the experience. After our recent stay, I can say with full heart: Ta’aktana, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, is that place.
Getting There: The Journey to Komodo Luxury
After a passport hiccup (pro tip: triple-check those expiry dates), we rebooked our trip and flew via Bangkok. A four-hour layover gave us time to unwind at Suvarnabhumi Airport, where the Miracle Lounge lived up to its name. We tucked into traditional Thai food, because how could we not?
We spent one night in Bali at Alila Villas before heading to Labuan Bajo, the gateway to Komodo National Park. Expecting a sleepy little airport, we were surprised to land in a newly renovated, modern terminal. Ta’aktana had arranged airport pickup, and we were greeted on the tarmac, a luxury touch that set the tone.

Ta’aktana is one of the best luxury hotels in Labuan Bajo, but what sets it apart is the heart behind the hospitality. On arrival, we were welcomed with a sunset ritual and gifted a bracelet — a symbolic gesture inviting us into their family. That level of connection stayed with us throughout the stay.
For the first few nights, we booked a standard room, spacious, warm, and elegantly appointed, with sea views and thoughtful touches like kimonos, beach bags, and even a Dyson. The complimentary minibar didn’t hurt either.
For our final days, we upgraded to the Garden Villa, complete with a private pool, two bathrooms, and a separate living area. Pure Komodo luxury.
What Makes Ta’aktana One of the Best Hotels Near Komodo National Park
This resort isn’t just beautiful, it’s deeply experiential. These are the moments that made our stay unforgettable:

Food lovers, take note: Ta’aktana delivers across the board.
Breakfast at Leros: Among the best we’ve had in Southeast Asia, fresh, flavorful, and full of local produce.
Indonesian Restaurant: Deeply authentic, with pricing that’s refreshingly fair for a luxury hotel in Komodo.
Japanese Restaurant: Aesthetically stunning with standout nigiri and wagyu beef. We also appreciated the curated sake and wine list, though diving days meant no drinking for us.
Poolside Dining: Surprisingly, one of the best burgers we’ve had, anywhere.
What to Know: Komodo Diving Without a Dive Center?
If you’re planning a Komodo diving and luxury stay, here’s one heads-up: Ta’aktana doesn’t yet have its own dive center. This was a surprise given how world-famous the diving here is. We had to book with an external operator, which worked out fine, but we do hope the resort adds this soon.
Final Thoughts: Would We Return? Absolutely.
From the overwater serenity to warm, attentive service, Ta’aktana is one of the most memorable luxury stays in Komodo, Indonesia we’ve experienced. While we wish it had an in-house dive center, everything else, the design, the food, the soul of the place, was flawless. This is our honest Ta’aktana Komodo Resort review.
